Designing a greener tomorrow

Integrating end-to-end expertise means we can find unique ways to deliver more sustainable solutions for you.

Our approach sees in-house consultants working closely with operational specialists to deliver ground-breaking projects like these:

  • Acting as the systems integrator on the Tideway project, the UK water industry’s largest project to reduce sewage overflow into the river Thames from fifty times to twice per year
  • Saving multi-millions of pounds and thousands of tonnes of carbon by developing a unique electrification solution for the 170 km Core Valley Lines in Wales
  • Designing the UK’s first carbon-neutral road improvement project – an £8m National Highways carriageway reconstruction in Cumbria

Areas of expertise

We can help make your infrastructure projects more sustainable and climate-resilient in key areas, including:

  • Decarbonisation and energy efficiency: We help businesses reduce their carbon footprint and enhance energy efficiency, using sustainable materials wherever possible and low carbon design
  • Nature-based Solutions: We leverage the power of nature to help you mitigate against and adapt to climate change. We can also help you develop and manage green assets
  • Climate resilience: We support the development of infrastructure that can withstand the impacts of climate change, such as improving flood risk, drainage and resilience

Our commitment to delivering sustainable solutions also means involving local communities and driving innovation across our supply chain.

How we help

You can rely on us for smarter, greener solutions across every market

Our engineers, designers, and consultants collaborate closely with operational experts to mitigate emissions, reduce unnecessary waste and environmental impact, making your road project more sustainable.

We recently designed the ‘UK’s first’ carbon-neutral road improvement project – an £8m National Highways carriageway reconstruction in Cumbria, reducing carbon by up to 43% compared to traditional solutions and saving almost £3m.

In Staffordshire, our partnership with the County Council has seen us pioneer innovative approaches such as recovering and recycling aggregate materials from highway maintenance to save money and carbon.

We also have a proven track record in executing large-scale lantern upgrades, converting old photocells to the latest LED specifications - saving up to 75% energy in the process.

We draw on and blend the diverse skill set of our experts to design smarter, greener ways to improve our rail networks, whether it’s planting 171,610 native woodland trees for HS2 or pioneering electrification.

As specialists in electrical power, most recently developed for the Transpennine Route Upgrade and Core Valley Lines in Wales, we can advise you on how to deliver sustainably and at pace.

On the Core Valley Lines project, a combination of power sources has saved hundreds of millions of pounds and thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions. The outcome for the travelling public will be new, clean, reliable transport from the Welsh valleys into the capital - contributing to more sustainable travel.

With targets for net zero, you’re under pressure to reduce emissions across your entire estate. You’ve been able to rely on us for sustainable solutions for decades, and now we’ve developed industry-leading capabilities in reducing carbon footprints across a wide range of environments.

Our ISO50001 and PAS2060 based processes and analytics help to create a detailed roadmap to guide you on your journey to net zero.

Our decarbonisation strategies include retrofitting and upgrading buildings to improve energy efficiency, implementing renewable energy systems, and promoting sustainable building practices to minimise environmental impact and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

For example, we’ve recently developed carbon-neutral state-of-the-art facilities for the Ministry of Defence.
