Through initiatives like our Social Impact Day, we actively engage in activities that enhance the lives of Service families and local communities. From supporting military social enterprises to upgrading community spaces, our efforts continue to make a meaningful impact across Defence communities and beyond.

We needed to go beyond our contractual obligations to make a real difference in local communities.

What was the challenge?

Amey is dedicated to delivering social value and environmental sustainability, particularly within Defence communities. The challenge lay in aligning our efforts with the Government’s Social Value Model while ensuring we met the unique needs of Service families. We needed to go beyond our contractual obligations to make a real difference in local communities, addressing both social and environmental issues. Our goal was to enhance wellbeing, create sustainable environments, and foster strong relationships with stakeholders, all while supporting government sustainability goals.

At Catterick Garrison, we faced the task of revitalising Bramblewoods, a 3.5-hectare woodland gifted by the MOD to the local community, which had been underutilised. Similarly, at RAF Boulmer, there was a need to upgrade the Airplay youth club to give local children and teens a safe, creative space. Our challenge was not only to complete these upgrades but to do so in a way that left a lasting positive impact on the community.

How did Amey approach the problem?

Amey leveraged its partnerships and expertise to deliver meaningful solutions across various Defence communities. In Catterick Garrison, we collaborated with e50K, a military social enterprise we funded, to transform Bramblewoods into a space that local families could enjoy. We set up a poly tunnel, refurbished picnic tables, and planted trees, seeds, and bulbs, ensuring the area would serve as a valuable recreational space.

At RAF Honington, we worked with Gavin Jones Ltd to create a painted roundel for the Battle of Britain event, while at RAF Boulmer, we teamed up with CLC Group Ltd, Pinnacle, and DIO to upgrade the Airplay youth club. The youth club now serves as both a creative outlet for young people and an office space for local housing teams, reflecting our dual focus on community enrichment and operational efficiency.

Additionally, Amey supported the Leeming Families Open Day, engaging with over 4000 visitors and addressing maintenance issues while providing entertainment for children. In Lincoln, our donation of surplus Move You In Packs to Project Compass demonstrated our commitment to supporting vulnerable populations by offering shelter and access to essential services.

The impact was substantial, as evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive community feedback and the tangible benefits delivered.

What was the outcome?

The impact was substantial, as evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive community feedback and the tangible benefits delivered. At Catterick Garrison, families now have access to an improved natural space, enhancing their wellbeing and fostering community engagement. The painted roundel at RAF Honington served as a focal point for the Battle of Britain event, and the upgraded youth club at RAF Boulmer provided local children with a creative space they previously lacked.

Our involvement in the Leeming Families Open Day allowed us to engage directly with families, resolving maintenance issues and showcasing our commitment to customer service. The donation to Project Compass in Lincoln provided much-needed support for homeless individuals, demonstrating our broader social responsibility.

Furthermore, Amey’s participation in the Veterans' Foundation charity cycle raised nearly £50,000, reflecting our commitment to supporting veterans and their families. Recognition as finalists in two categories of the English Veterans Awards further underscores our dedication to the veteran community.
