Problem
Amey previously worked with the client to refurbish three playparks, install a brand new one and replace a derelict tennis court with a multi-use games area at Kendrew Barracks. In 2023, Amey was instructed to refurbish the fourth and final playpark at the Barracks. Existing equipment was over 20 years old and spare parts were now unavailable. Surrounding fencing was also in poor condition and the area was less than family friendly.
Solution
Working in partnership with the client and supply chain partners, Proludic, Amey used the initial playpark footprint with the aim of providing a sustainable, long-term solution. A multi-use goal/basketball area was added to expand opportunities for older children and the inclusion of picnic benches provides a communal space for social gatherings.
Impact
The project was successfully delivered within six weeks. The result is a vastly improved, inclusive playpark designed for up to 75 users, catering to children from toddlers to teenagers. As a welcome development, this playpark will play a crucial role in helping families relocating from Cyprus during the Unit move over the summer of 2024, helping them settle into their new environment.
“Thanks must go to the collaborative working relationship between the local Amey and DIO teams and to VIVO Defence who removed the overhanging branches.”
