Is your head spinning from trying to stay on top of your building’s energy usage? Making sure the lights are switched off and the heating is only on in occupied rooms, opening energy bills with one eye shut, scared of that £ figure, all the while making use of peak times just to save a few pounds?

At a glance

  • In partnership with Grid Edge, we have developed an innovative solution to help customers accelerate their journey to Net Zero.
  • The product, E60+, is an AI-powered tool that implements recommendations into Building Management System (BMS) scheduling with the support of BMSI, the UK's leading independent systems integrator of Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS).
  • E60+ aggregates information from across an entire estate, including the BMS, assets, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, submeters and occupancy data.
  • E60+ optimises asset performance to reduce carbon and costs in real time, which will decrease energy load and help future-proof estates.

E60+ is a platform that automatically adjusts your heating and turns off your lights, tracks your energy-usage to make real-time changes, saving you money down the line – all without so much as the press of a button.

At Amey, our tech enables buildings to autonomously monitor energy performance and make real-time changes that save you money and drive down carbon emissions.

Using data and harnessing the power of AI and machine learning, E60+ can identify trends, anomalies, and inefficiencies and turn these insights and recommendations into actions that significantly reduce carbon and generate cost savings for our customers.

Beyond its environmental impact, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels also has cost-saving benefits for public and commercial properties.

A digital solution to drive down energy-usage

We have combined our technology and energy transition expertise to help our clients combat the use of fossil fuels in the facilities management (FM) sector.

We have partnered with Grid Edge, an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that powers commercial buildings to Net Zero, to co-create a leading-edge technology product. E60+ enables our clients to make real-time changes to building assets in response to how a property is utilised, in turn accelerating their carbon reduction journey.

This comes as approximately 20% of the UK’s carbon footprint derives from commercial buildings, with fossil fuels a key contributor. Increasing energy efficiency in buildings is critical to lowering this figure and achieving the UK Government’s commitment of a 68% carbon emissions reduction by 2030. Beyond its environmental impact, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels also has cost-saving benefits for public and commercial properties.

To address this, we have leveraged our decarbonisation and data and analytics expertise and deep-seeded supply chain relationships to introduce a new solution that will turn insights into actions and deliver whole-life value for our clients’ assets and ongoing operations.

Using tech to create sustainable, low-carbon energy systems

Our latest innovation, E60+, integrates technology, analytics and systems to track and change carbon usage. The platform gathers information from various sources across a building’s footprint to contextualise building, energy, occupant, and environmental data. E60+ integrates this information with AI and machine learning to create a detailed picture of when, where and how workplaces and the assets that power them operate. These insights are turned into recommendations to optimise asset performance and reduce carbon and cost in real time.

E60+’s ability to implement these recommendations immediately into BMS scheduling is what sets it apart.
Using BMSI as the integrator, changes are made immediately based on rules we have predefined with the respective client, which ensures the end user experience is not compromised.

While the product works to shift energy demand to the lowest carbon and lowest cost times of day, E60+ also helps instil long-term benefits into a clients’ estate, by automatically adjusting when and what energy a building uses.

Data and technology are key enablers on the path to creating greener, more sustainable estates. As a digital-first organisation, we collaborate with our supply chain network to create products and services that support the public sector’s journey to Net Zero, while maximising our clients’ capital and revenue budgets.

This innovative solution will support our clients to transition to a sustainable, low-carbon energy system that supports their decarbonisation objectives and reduces their costs.

Leveraging connected technology to track and change

The platform’s inbuilt energy tracker gathers and contextualises historic data to identify areas that are underperforming. Drilling down into the smallest components of an energy system, the platform streams data from building management systems, assets, IoT devices, submeters and occupancy data.

From this, E60+’s algorithm identifies trends, anomalies, and inefficiencies, assessing specific assets and equipment that waste energy throughout the building. These insights are turned into actionable recommendations that tell building operators exactly what they need to do and how much carbon and cost they will save.

Automation and behind-the-meter flexibility then take over; by listening to indicators from the energy suppliers (the National Grid and renewable sources), the system balances the needs of the building and the network supply, making changes to when and how much energy is used. These real-time changes to energy use mean that user experience is not comprised, while ensuring optimal use of resources across a building’s footprint.

Throughout this process, our people are on hand to support the client through the technical integration, ongoing project governance, and validation process to ensure cost and energy savings are maximised across the duration of the contract.

A proven reduction in cost and carbon

After the successful pilot, E60+ shows a potential 20-40% reduction in carbon emissions and energy costs through optimised controls within the first 12 months. This includes a £67,556 in savings on energy so far and 82,682 kg CO2e reduction annually, proving its ability to deliver effective solutions for reducing energy usage, operational costs, and carbon footprints.

With E60+ now part of our suite of digital products, this innovative solution will support our clients to transition to a sustainable, low-carbon energy system that supports their decarbonisation objectives and reduces their costs.

Supporting our clients through the energy reduction journey

At Amey, we understand that reaching sustainability goals is an ongoing journey that requires continuous support and adaption. We will be supporting clients across our public sector portfolio to integrate E60+ into their building management system to create a streamlined approach to energy and asset management that is centred around creating cost-effective, optimal and effective environments.
