Amey collaborates with supply chain member, chartered building consultancy, RECOM to deliver social value in Bradford, leveraging its experience in championing ESG to improve safety and support the city’s most vulnerable people.
Working with RECOM, Amey identified an opportunity to deliver meaningful social value at St John’s Bowling, a local church which Amey colleagues have previously volunteered at. The church not only serves as a place of worship but also operates as a vital community hub, offering food banks, hot meals, support for asylum seekers, and activities for older people.
Following the introduction, RECOM visited the site and discovered many of the church doors were hollow, outdated and not compliant with fire safety regulations.
Recognising the importance of a secure and compliant space for the Bradford community, Amey facilitated a collaboration that led to the installation of brand-new fire doors throughout the building. St John’s Bowling purchased the doors, while RECOM fitted them free of charge.
With improved safety measures now in place, St John’s Bowling can continue to offer a secure and welcoming space for the many individuals and families in Bradford who rely on its services.
The initiative is a testament to the strong relationships Amey has built with its supply chain, and how those partnerships can be used to drive positive change in local communities.
Ian Warren, Business Director for Amey Public Estates, said: “It is great to see our supply chain share Amey’s enthusiasm in making a positive impact on the communities we operate in. Working with RECOM to deliver social value proved to be a successful partnership, and we are looking to see how we can work together again to benefit the people of Bradford.”
Sarah Leadbetter, social value Lead for RECOM, said: “Our team were thrilled to support St Johns Hub in Bradford with the installation of new doors throughout the community hub. As part of our social value initiative, it’s great to give back and help create a safer, more welcoming space for everyone, and to support such a valuable service to the local community.”
David Brickman, St John’s Bowling Hub Development Manager, said: “We really appreciate all the support from RECOM, and the work will make a huge difference in our community space.”
