AmeySRM has been recognised for environmental excellence, winning the International Green Apple Environment Award for its work on the A533 Bridge Replacement Scheme in Cheshire.
The partnership between Amey and Sir Robert McAlpine delivered the £27 million project for National Highways. The new 67-metre, two-span concrete bridge, which includes a two-lane carriageway and a footpath/cycleway, secures the vital A533 link between Runcorn and Northwich, crossing the M56 motorway in the North-West.

Selected from over 1,200 global nominations, AmeySRM received the award at a ceremony held at Kensington Palace, London, on 18 November. The award was presented by Helen Kitchen, Business Development Manager at Yealands Wines of New Zealand – winners of the 2024 Green World Environment Awards, which will be hosted in New Zealand next spring.

As part of this achievement, AmeySRM has been invited to further their success as a Green World Ambassador. This honour includes the publication of their award-winning environmental project in The Green Book, an internationally recognised reference on environmental best practices. Through this publication, AmeySRM will inspire and guide others worldwide to adopt sustainable solutions.

AmeySRM will also represent the UK at the Green World Environment Awards in New Zealand next year, joining global leaders in sustainability to share innovations and further environmental stewardship.

Strategic Highways Business Director at Amey, Stephen Knott, said: “This award recognition follows a stream of recent award wins for the A533 bridge replacement scheme and is testament to engineering excellence and sustainability. The award highlights our dedication to creating and delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that benefit not just the present but also future generations.”

The independent judging panel of The Green Apple Awards, said: “The £27m National Highways project successfully replaced the A533 bridge over the M56 in Cheshire, minimising disruption and enhancing safety. Achievements include a 1,029.7t CO2e reduction, improved biodiversity, and efficient waste recycling, setting a benchmark for future projects!”
