Amey has been awarded PAS 2080:2023 certification by the British Standards Institution (BSI) for its Carbon Management Process across projects and programmes of works in its Highways and Rail business. This recognition further exemplifies Amey’s unique position in offering clients sustainable infrastructure solutions by achieving Asset Owner/Manager and Constructor status.
PAS 2080 is a global standard for managing carbon in buildings and infrastructure. It looks at the whole value chain and aims to reduce carbon and cost through intelligent asset management, design, construction, and use. Amey showed that its adaption to a low-carbon future with a holistic carbon management approach is reducing cost and fostering an industry leading approach.
Amey’s Carbon Management Process implemented as Asset Owner/Manager and Constructor complements the certification Amey already holds as Designer, which makes Amey unique as an organisation in achieving PAS 2080 across three different roles in the value chain as Asset Owner/Manager, Designer and Constructor.
Achieving PAS 2080 is a key priority for Amey’s ESG Strategy that outlines the need to reduce and optimise the use of energy and natural resources across infrastructure management.

The process to certification started in November 2023 and included a number of assessment days in May and July this year.
During the assessment days it was noted that Amey has embedded a whole life carbon management approach within Highways and Rail and its management processes, that its people talked authentically in relation to carbon management and that a number of work-streams were industry leading. This is evident in Amey’s pioneering Core Valley Lines project with Transport for Wales, where it has reduced the need for extensive engineering works and reduced carbon emissions.
In addition, Amey was commended for its ESG Strategy and Planet + programmes which drive continual improvement and innovation that delivers long term sustainable value.
