Amey, the leading provider of full life-cycle engineering, operations, and decarbonisation solutions for UK infrastructure, triumphed at this year’s Inspiring Women in Construction and Engineering (IWCE) Awards, winning the ‘Contribution to a Project’, ‘Excellence in Recruitment and Retention’, and the ‘Rising Star’ categories.

Amongst Amey’s flurry of wins was Fiona Ray, HSEQ Lead for Rail, taking home the top spot for the ‘Contribution to a Project’ award for her outstanding work on the Core Valley Lines Transformation project. Fiona’s leadership has greatly enhanced safety, quality, and wellbeing standards within the design team. She’s also responsible for a number of key initiatives including developing improved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for women, promoting unconscious bias awareness, and founding a Women’s Lean-In Circle, all of which have positively impacted both the project and Amey’s broader organisational culture.

Amey’s very own Hollie Taylor, a Geo Environmental Engineer who is also Co-Chair of the Women at Amey network, received the ‘Rising Star – Contribution to Gender Diversity’ award for her efforts to improve inclusivity for women in the industry. Hollie recognised the challenges posed by ill-fitting PPE for women and has led efforts to raise awareness and develop better fitting PPE for women in the field. Her work has also created a platform for women across the company to voice their concerns and ensure that inclusivity remains a top priority for Amey.

The third win went to Amey’s Consulting People Team who won the ‘Excellence in Recruitment and Retention’ award category. The team’s inclusive recruitment strategy included its innovative ReStart programme, a career transition initiative that has successfully attracted diverse talent into the infrastructure sector. Commitment to fostering a flexible and inclusive workplace has also reduced attrition rates and resulted in 30% of new joiners over the last 12 months being female.

The IWCE awards recognise and celebrate the individuals, teams, and companies making outstanding contributions to gender diversity within the construction and engineering industries.

Laura Simarro, People Director, Consulting, Amey, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Fiona, Hollie, and our Consulting People Team for these well-deserved accolades. These award wins are testament to the commitment to diversity and inclusion that Amey strives for, and we remain steadfast in our goal to continue driving positive change within the infrastructure industry.”
