Amey, a provider of critical facilities and asset management services to the public sector, has handed over a newly modernised facility to the Department of Work & Pensions (DWP) service in Swansea, Wales.
The design and build project, for the Centre for Health and Disability Assessments (CHDA), comprised a complete building fit out. Works included ventilation, electrical, variable refrigerant flow, fire and security system installations, internal partitions to change the configuration of the space and the inclusion of a building management system.
It will provide local people with better access to Disability Assessment Centres, which are designed to develop an understanding of the specific impact an individual’s long-term illness or disability has on their ability to work.
The centres are an integral part of the process for claiming for disability employment support, and the new building will enable the CHDA to provide a tailored space specifically designed for the needs, circumstances, and capabilities of the customer.
The project reflects an aligned objective from DWP and Amey to create public spaces and workplaces that deliver modern and accessible facility that meets the BREEAM standards for sustainability and environmental performance.
The facility, which covers an area of over 500 square metres, features reception and waiting areas, private assessment rooms, staff offices, meeting rooms, and welfare spaces.
The Amey team have worked collaboratively with the DWP, their designers and supply chain to ensure that the facility meets the highest standards of design, functionality, and sustainability. Construction started in September and was handed over at the end of February.
Ian Warren, Business Director for Amey’s Public Estates business, said: “We’re proud to hand over this vital facility to the city of Swansea. We recognise the important role the DWP plays in supporting citizens who have disabilities and health conditions. These values align closely to what we believe as an organisation. We are committed to continuing to work with the DWP and the wider public sector to create communities that are sustainable and prosperous.”
Amey carries out facilities management and project works across the education, justice, defence, and health sectors, as well as for local and national government.
