Amey, a leading provider of full life-cycle engineering, operations and decarbonisation solutions for UK infrastructure, has been recognised by British Standards Institute (BSI) for using the ISO 20400 standard to integrate sustainable procurement practices into the organisation. The assessment result is testament to Amey’s commitment to sustainability and ethical practices through its supply chain.
The BSI delivered a comprehensive assessment of Amey’s procurement practices and key strengths identified were its ESG strategy, supply chain collaboration, decarbonisation plans and metrics, and social value initiatives.
Amey is proud to support over 4,000 suppliers across the UK, 76% of which are SMEs. Last year, Amey spent £1.3 billion with its supply chain of which more than £750m was spent with SME’s.
Sustainable procurement is critical in contributing to Amey’s goal to achieve sustainable and responsible growth, and has a large part to play in supporting clients sustainability goals and enabling the industry to leave a lasting, positive impact on our planet.
To support its ambitions, Amey has partnered with Constructionline to support its prequalification process by using their industry standard process of validating all members against the PAS91 criteria. Amey remains a member of the Supply Chain Sustainability School and has committed to achieving Gold level membership by the end of 2024.
In addition, Amey also remains focussed on opening up opportunities for Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise’s (VCSEs), cemented through its membership of social Enterprise UK’s Buy Social Corporate Challenge. Alongside its recent Social Enterprise Initiative in partnership with Hays that aims to foster sustainable growth for four VCSEs that prioritise inclusive recruitment.*

Throughout the assessment, the collaboration from over 40 people across the business, suppliers and other specialist stakeholders displayed a tremendous commitment to the sustainable procurement initiatives.
